“The Lord will
fight for you, and you have only to keep still.”
(Exodus 14:14 NRSV)
February 2007
Dear All Saints' Family,
Occasionally I introduce a
sermon as a ‘kitchen drawer sermon’ with various odds and ends that may
or may not relate to one another. This article is one of those. I
first want to pass on my thoughts from the Annual Meeting. For many it
was a somber meeting as we face huge financial challenges this year. As
I did in my address, I want to remind us that there were many blessings
and accomplishments in spite of our struggles, and that in Christ all
things are possible. Your vestry is committed to look for every
possible way to save, and will prayerfully do what is necessary to bring
us to balance.
Next I want to introduce the
Rev. Michael Lubowa, his wife Jennifer, and his 2 ½ year old son George
who will spend six weeks with us as part of his learning experience.
Michael is a student at Radcliffe College, England, Vicar of the
Cathedral of Mityana Diocese, Uganda and the son of a retired bishop in
Uganda. Michael will attend many of our programs and studies and will
have time to share the culture and ministries of the Church in Uganda.
The Lubowas are from the very diocese that Janet and I will be visiting
this summer and are helping us to finalize our itinerary. We are
blessed to have them with us.
I want to thank all of the
volunteers who are helping in the office during our search for a new
Administrative Assistant. They have been doing a fantastic job keeping
up with the everyday duties. We hope to have a permanent person by the
March. On that same note I heard that Thelma Mack has suffered a setback
in her recovery. Please keep Thelma and Jim in your prayers.
Please remember that the holy
season of Lent begins on February 21 with Ash Wednesday services at
10:00 am and 7:30 pm. We are also planning our annual Pancake Supper on
Tuesday, February 20 from 5 pm -7 pm. Last year we reintroduced Lenten
coin folders and will continue that practice again.
Finally, during our Tuesday
morning Bible study we were studying the crossing of the Red Sea in the
book of Exodus. Israel was pushed to the sea with the Egyptian army
fast approaching. It was an impossible situation and the people began
to panic, something we often do when we face what seems to be impossible
obstacles. Moses heard these words from God, “The Lord will fight for
you, and you will have only to keep still”. These are wonderful words
for us as we face the days and months ahead. Remember always that our
Lord is always faithful to those who put their trust in Him.
God's blessings,
Fr. David+
