Dear All Saints' Family,
I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to everyone for making the
Annual Meeting such a positive event. The vestry presented a budget that
is both a statement of faith and a reflection of our hopes and dreams. We
will be challenged to be good stewards of God's resources as we face the
uncontrollable and unforeseen expenses of operating the church. No one
knows what the weather will bring, what repairs and improvements will be
needed to our facilities, or what other surprises there will be. We did
our best to plan for these as well as to provide resources for the growing
number of programs and ministries we have. Your continued generous support
is needed, and I thank you for your faithfulness.
Another thing that is always gratifying is the ministry reports. Fr.
Dan expressed his surprise at how many people volunteer their time and
talents for the glory of God in this place, and how much goes on. I pray
we continue to meet the needs of our parishioners in the coming years so
we all will grow in the knowledge and love of God, and in fellowship with
one another.
In my report I tried to explain as best I could my perspective on the
issues that face the Anglican Communion, the Episcopal Church, and our
parish. I did my best to be as fair as possible while sharing my faith and
understanding of what it means to be part of the universal church. As I
said in my presentation, my deepest desire is for us to maintain our
integrity while finding a way for All Saints', the Diocese, the National
Church, and the Anglican Communion to hold together. I didn't realize
until I began how deeply these issues have affected me emotionally. I
thank those who gave me a word of encouragement after the meeting. Copies
of my report will be made available upon request
Finally, as we look to the future please continue to pray for the
leadership of All Saints'. The months ahead will be a time of careful
discernment on many issues including our relationship with the
institutional structures of our denomination, the building and space needs
of our congregation, and needed financial resources for our mission and
ministry. I give thanks to God that he has given me the honor of being
your rector, and I pray for the leading of the Holy Spirit as we meet the
future together.
In Christ,
Fr. David
