February 2003
Dear All Saints’ Family,
Greetings in the name of our
Lord, Jesus Christ. I would like to take a moment to thank everyone who
made our annual meeting such a wonderful time. I felt that the meeting was
a celebration of all that God has done among us in the past year and a
positive look forward toward the future. Attendance at the annual meeting
was higher that any other in my time at All Saints’: nearly 140 people. We
presented our budget, passed the changes in the by-laws, elected new
vestry members, and presented two proposals that will help us meet the
needs of our parish in the future.
First I wish to thank our
outgoing Vestry members. Bob Vaughan, Skip Stevens, and David Arrington
have served with wisdom, insight, and enthusiasm for three years. I also
welcome our newly elected Vestry members, Bernice Culver, Susan Ryder, and
David Waite. I also want to thank those who offered to serve on Vestry but
were not elected this time. Rick Conley, Cathy Eller, Holly Stiltner, Ben
Turner, David Chalfoun, and Al Myers were all well qualified to serve on
the Vestry and I pray they will consider the Vestry in the future.
The vestry elected John Rogers
Sr. as Junior Warden at its meeting following the annual meeting. John
initiated and has headed our Super Saturdays for the past couple of years
and they have been a magnif-icent success. Erik Ewertz served as Junior
Warden for the past eight years and will help John in his transition into
the position. How can we thank Erik enough? During my first years at All
Saints’ we dedicated a great deal of time and money on long overdue
maintenance and building projects to make our facilities up to date and
useable. Erik guided us through the roof project, renovation of Fletcher
Hall, the King’s Stable, the acquisition of the storage shed, the parking
lot paving, the annex, the floor refinishing in the church, and so many
other projects that we can’t list them all. The vestry will ask Erik to
continue to be involved in future capital projects; there will be more
information coming after the Vestry meets in February.
Soon you will be hearing more
about the proposed property acquisition and the funding for an associate
priest. Both of these projects were presented at length at the annual
meeting and if there are any questions please contact Clay Lawson or
myself. Speaking of Clay Lawson, (or William as I call him), I thank God
for his leadership, and steady hand. Clay has proved to be a fabulous
Senior Warden and we are blessed to have him. Thank you Clay for all you
are and all you have done for us.
Finally I continually ask for
your prayers as we go forward in faith. Please consider signing up on the
door of the prayer room to dedicate time each day to pray for the
church. With God’s help and your prayers we will continue to grow in
grace.
God bless you,
Fr. David
